LinearB alternative

Workflow automation versus a full engineering intelligence platform

LinearB is a strong, focused product: DORA metrics, cycle time, and gitStream, its policy-as-code automation for pull request routing and review.1 It also offers a genuinely useful free tier for small teams. What it does not offer is resource planning, project cost reporting, a developer experience survey layer, or on-premise deployment.

Waydev covers the delivery ground LinearB covers, then adds planning, health and AI measurement, self-hosted deployment, and published pricing per active contributor. Request a free trial.

What LinearB covers

LinearB’s public feature set centers on DORA metrics, cycle time, and gitStream, its policy-as-code automation for pull request routing and review.2,3 It also runs a free tier for teams up to roughly 8 to 10 developers, covering basic DORA metrics and PR insights.4 Neither of those changes the picture for an organization that needs planning, developer experience measurement, or deployment control, which is where this comparison focuses.

Its own users have flagged the edges of that scope. One reviewer on G2 specifically asked for tooling closer to the SPACE framework and calendar integration for flow tracking, capabilities the product does not offer.2 LinearB is built around pipeline velocity and workflow automation, and it does not extend into developer experience measurement, resource planning, or deployment flexibility, which is where Waydev covers ground LinearB does not.

Reasons teams choose Waydev instead

Beyond the pipeline

Planning and health, not just delivery velocity

Resource planning and project costs connect engineering capacity to spend and initiative progress. Snapshots, launched August 2026, adds a benchmarked developer experience survey with its own scored index. LinearB’s public feature set centers on DORA, cycle time, and workflow automation, without a comparable planning or DevEx survey layer.1,2

Deployment

Your commit data never has to leave your perimeter

Waydev runs cloud or on-premise, with self-hosted Git and ticketing integrations on the Enterprise plan. LinearB operates as a cloud service. For regulated industries and data residency requirements, this decides the evaluation before feature lists open.

Coverage

The whole toolchain, not the popular part of it

Azure DevOps, GitLab Enterprise, AWS CodeCommit and Gerrit alongside GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, plus Jira, Azure Boards and ClickUp. LinearB’s documented integrations center on GitHub, GitLab, Jira and Slack.3

Commercial model

Published pricing, unlimited teams and users

Waydev prices a licence per active contributor with unlimited teams and users inside a plan. LinearB’s paid tiers are also priced per developer, but its published rate cards vary by source and its Enterprise tier is quote-based, while API access and advanced permissions are historically part of higher tiers rather than every plan.4,5

Code quality

Quality data sitting next to delivery data

Waydev pulls Sonar data so code quality metrics appear alongside issue tracking and version control activity in the same view, rather than requiring a separate tool and a manual correlation.

Inside Waydev

Four modules plus Snapshots, all reading from the same organization.

Delivery Pull Request Insights, DORA metrics, and cycle time split into coding, review and deployment.
Health Snapshots surveys your team and benchmarks the results, alongside team and contributor insights, benchmarks against company standards, and hygiene checks.
Planning Resource planning and project costs, connecting engineering capacity to spend and initiative progress.
Automation Targets, notifications, the activity heatmap and work log, plus WAY AI agents and the AI Copilot for AI adoption and impact.

Pricing

Waydev prices a licence per active contributor with unlimited teams and users inside a plan, so you are not paying for engineers you are not tracking. LinearB is also priced per developer, with a free tier and quote-based Enterprise pricing; treat the figures below as market context, not LinearB’s current rate card.

Waydev plans are published. LinearB figures are compiled from third-party pricing trackers and vary by source.

Switching from LinearB

1. Prove it on your own repositories The proof of concept runs against your real commit and PR history, so the comparison uses your numbers rather than a demo tenant.
2. Keep the history Waydev backfills existing version control and issue tracking data, up to 6 months on Pro and 36 months on Premium, so trend lines start immediately.
3. Connect what LinearB doesn’t read If part of your estate sits on Azure DevOps, Gerrit or AWS CodeCommit, connect those first.
4. Decide what to do about gitStream policies If you rely on gitStream for PR routing or review automation, plan how those policies map to Waydev’s targets and notifications, or whether they stay in place independently while Waydev handles measurement.
5. Plan the rollout with a person A dedicated customer success and adoption team handles onboarding and ongoing use.

Common questions

Does LinearB have a free plan?

Yes, for teams up to roughly 8 to 10 developers, covering basic DORA metrics and PR insights.4 Waydev does not offer a comparable free tier; instead, evaluate Waydev on a proof of concept against your own repositories, which covers the full platform rather than a limited tier.

Is LinearB cloud-only?

Based on its public documentation and integrations, yes. If self-hosted or on-premise deployment is a requirement, that decides the evaluation regardless of feature depth elsewhere.

Is SOC 3 a higher certification than SOC 2?

No. A SOC 3 report can only be issued after a clean SOC 2 Type II audit and is a public summary of that same examination.6 Waydev holds SOC 2 Type II and publishes a SOC 3, so our attestation can be shared without an NDA.

Does Waydev have calendar integration?

We are checking this against current documentation before making a market-wide exclusivity claim; verify with your account team before repeating it to a prospect. What we can state confidently is that at least one public LinearB review specifically asked for calendar integration for flow tracking, which the reviewer described as unavailable at the time.2

Can we migrate historical data?

Yes. Waydev backfills up to 6 months of history on Pro and 36 months on Premium.

Decide with your own numbers

Connect your repositories and run the proof of concept before committing to a tier on either platform.
