Code Climate alternative
Code Climate does not sell its software on its own. Every engagement pairs the platform with practitioners, the smallest tier still includes quarterly advisory, and their stated sweet spot starts at around fifty developers.1 It is an honest model, and it is a large commitment.
Waydev sells the instrument. Your leaders run it, a customer success team supports them, and you are reading your own data in days rather than at the end of an assessment phase. Request a free trial.
Both paths lead to better decisions. They do not arrive at the same time, and time is the part most evaluations underprice.
Phases and timeline taken from Code Climate’s published process.1
Code Climate states that it does not offer platform-only access and that its smallest engagement includes quarterly advisory support.1 If your budget has a licence line and no professional services line, that decides the evaluation before anyone opens a feature list. Waydev is a licence with support included.
A proof of concept runs against your real commit and PR history before you commit to anything. No discovery phase, no stakeholder interview round, no baseline established by someone else. You look at your delivery data and decide.
Code Climate is candid that its sweet spot is fifty developers and up, and that smaller teams are better served by lighter tools until scale problems appear.1 Waydev works at thirty engineers and at ten thousand, with the same platform and the same pricing model.
Cloud or on-premise, with self-hosted Git and ticketing integrations on the Enterprise plan. For regulated industries and organizations with data residency clauses, a cloud-only platform is not an option regardless of how good the reporting is.
Azure DevOps, GitLab Enterprise, AWS CodeCommit and Gerrit alongside GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, plus Jira, Azure Boards and ClickUp. Large estates are rarely clean, and the repositories a platform cannot read are usually the ones hiding the bottleneck.
Write your own formulas, build the dashboards your leadership actually asks for, and move data both directions through an open API from the Premium plan. Add WAY AI agents and the AI Copilot for AI adoption, impact and ROI measured continuously rather than assessed in a workshop.
One model gives you an interpreter. The other gives you the instrument, and keeps the interpretation in house where the context already lives.

Worth saying plainly, because a comparison nobody believes converts nobody.
There is a third path worth naming. Some organizations use an advisory engagement to define what good looks like, then move to a platform they run themselves once the internal capability exists. Code Climate acknowledges customers who use them as a bridge while building that team.1 If that is the plan, the platform you land on afterwards is the decision that outlasts the engagement.
Waydev runs a proof of concept against your real commit and PR history. Whichever model you end up choosing, walking in with your own numbers costs less than walking in with a vendor’s.

Waydev prices a licence per active contributor with unlimited teams and users in a plan. Code Climate prices an engagement, and states openly that it costs more than a dashboard tool because expertise is part of what you are buying.1 Both are reasonable. They are not the same line item.
| Plan | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | From $449 per active contributor per year | Delivery and Health reports, targets, notifications, role-based access, custom dashboards, up to 50 repositories and 6 months of history |
| Premium | From $649 per active contributor per year | Delivery, Health, Planning, Automation and Custom modules, SSO and SAML, team-level permissions, API access, up to 300 repositories and 36 months of history |
| Enterprise | Custom | Everything in Premium plus on-premise Git and ticketing integrations, self-hosted or cloud-hosted, custom engineering support and enterprise customer success |
| Code Climate | Quoted per engagement | Platform plus advisory. Lightest tier includes quarterly advisor check-ins, the fullest adds a dedicated advisor and weekly sessions1 |
Code Climate spun its Quality product out into a separate company, Qlty Software, and refocused Code Climate on software engineering intelligence for the enterprise.4 The free Velocity for Teams service was ended in December 2023 and those accounts were deactivated on 18 March 2024 as part of the same shift.5 If you evaluated Velocity as a self-serve tool a few years ago, what you would be buying today is a different proposition.
An easy to use platform that displays critical project and developer metrics clearly.
Tata Health case studyWe used to count tickets reported and resolved. With Waydev we go deeper.
Nowcom case studyWaydev helped us identify team output and improve the efficiency of our engineers.
Appjobs case studyNo. Code Climate states that it does not sell platform-only access, and that its smallest engagement includes quarterly advisory support.1 If a licence-only purchase is a requirement, that settles the question before features enter it.
The product continues. The free Velocity for Teams tier ended in December 2023 and those accounts were deactivated on 18 March 2024 as the company moved its focus to the enterprise.5 Paid subscriptions were unaffected.
Yes, integrated into Velocity Analytics in 2023 and correlated with cycle time, unreviewed PRs and PR size.2 DORA coverage is not a differentiator between these two platforms, and any comparison page claiming otherwise is out of date.
No. A SOC 3 report can only be issued after a clean SOC 2 Type II audit and is a public summary of that same examination.6 Waydev holds SOC 2 Type II and publishes a SOC 3, so our attestation can be shared without an NDA.
A dedicated customer success and adoption team handles onboarding, rollout and ongoing use. It is support for a platform you run, not a transformation programme with a scoped roadmap, and the two should not be priced or judged as the same thing.
Connect your repositories, run the proof of concept, and see what your delivery data says before anyone scopes an engagement around it.
